Harris RF Communications and Harris IT Services are joining forces with Cisco in a growth initiative designed to open new markets for the SecNet 54 Type-1 wireless LAN product. The initiative, called SMArT-1 (Secure Mobile Architecture Type-1), is essentially a blending of expertise to produce a single secure wireless solution for a common government customer base. Harris RF Communications produces the SecNet 54 Type 1 Wireless LAN product, which provides a wireless LAN portal to classified resources. Cisco provides products that secure and manage the wireless side of the network. Harris IT Services provides the installation and management services for the government agencies that utilize these architectures.
Using these assets, the alliance aims to expand the ability of federal civilian and intelligence agencies to view and share classified data over wireless information technology networks. In the past, installation of these networks were limited at the federal level due to policy mandates and other protocols governing access to sensitive data.
The result is a win-win strategy for both Cisco and Harris. Cisco is the world leader in networking products and management tools for both wired and wireless networks. Its large product portfolio and strong customer relationships provide the SecNet team with greater access to government IT decision-makers.
SecNet 54 products are now being placed into Cisco's Center of Excellence in Herndon, Va., a facility where Cisco holds many public relations events and shows off its latest solutions to key customers. Cisco's Center of Excellence will be linked via SecNet 54 to the Harris Woodlake facility in Palm Bay. Cross-country teleconference links will be used in joint customer demonstrations to simulate a cross-country encrypted link using SecNet 54. To kick off the initiative, a live webinar entitled "Implementing a Secure, Encrypted Wireless Solution" was presented on Jan. 24. SMArT1 offers a very promising opportunity for Harris.
